1584. Henry Cocke

SOURCES:
Will of Henry Cocke, dated 02 Apr 1615 and proved 06 Jun 1617, in the
Archdeaconry Court of Cornwall; (see wills in FHL #90,152). Will mentions
wife Margery; daughter Annes (wife of Phillipp Andrewartha); and sons
Thomas (and wife Catherin), William the elder, Henry, and John. Also
mentioned is a "William Cocke the younger, of Paule parish." It is not
clear who that might be. Also mentioned is a Richard COCKE "of Nanterowe."
Bur.: Gwithian Parish Register (FHL #254,204).
Marr.: Phillimore, ed., Cornwall Parish Registers, (transcripts of
marriages) -- p. 123 of Gwithian marriages in vol. 3 of FHL #929.37/V25p.

1586. Richard Hockin

SOURCES/BIRTH: Estimated based on christening dates of children.
Marr.: No probable marriage entry at Gwithian.
Bur.: Gwithian Parish Register (FHL #254,205)

NOTES: There is a marriage for a Richard HOCKIN and Jane RICHARD on 11
Feb 1581 at Camborne, a neighboring parish. Marriage sealing occurred
08 Oct 1954, SLAKE (see Archive Record). This couple apparently had
only one child at Camborne, a daughter Ellen, chr. 02 Apr 1592. This
could certainly be an additional child of the Richard listed herein, with
the earlier children christened at Gwithian. However, there is also an
administration of an estate for a Richard HOCKIN at Camborne dated 24
Oct 1614, which is listed in the "Calendar to Wills and Admins." for the
Archdeaconry Court of Cornwall. Unfortunately, in searching 2/21/89, I
was not able to find the actual record of the admin. Also, a Margaret
HOCKIN md. Humphry WILLIAMS 07 Oct 1591 at Gwithian. "Humfry
WILLIAMS" is one of the overseers of the estate of child #2 Thomas, and
in Humphry's own will, he mentions Mary COCKE (child #3), and Charles
HOCKIN, possibly a son of #2 Thomas. If Margaret is a daughter of this
Richard, then she would probably have been born too early for the
Camborne marriage to be a "match." It is also possible she might be a
much younger sister of this Richard, but she is obviously related.

1664. William Donnithorne

SOURCES: IGI.
CHR./MARR.: Gulval Parish Register, chr./marr./bur. 1598-1712 (FHL #226,152).
BUR.: ibid.

NOTES:
Parish register uses Latinized form of name: "Willmus" therein and in IGI.
Baptism and Endowment were also done based on the marriage data. See IGI under
Willmus Donithorne.
Archive Sheet for William Donnithorne and Jane Beryman only lists a child
Richard, but the date is given as "2 Feb 1651/52." The par. reg. has no such
child, but there is a Richard, son of William, chr. 2 Feb 1631/2. Given
the date of this couple's marriage, it would appear likely that Richard was
actually a younger brother of this William, and was born to William Donithorn
and Joan Sandick.
Despite advanced age at burial record, this seems correct. Burial entry
for wife in 1694 has "Jane, wife of William Donithorn." No other William
and Jane Donithorn appear to have been alive/married at this time.
Marr. Record: "Willmus Donithorne, Junr et Jana Beryman"

1665. Jane or Jana Beryman

SOURCES/BURIAL: Gulval Parish Register, burials (FHL #226,152): "Jane,
wife of William Donithorn."

1670. James or Jacobus Vibert

SOURCES: Research and records of Anthony J. Cannon.
Birth and Marriage estimated based on chr. dates of Children.

NOTES: There is a burial entry for a James VIBERT 25 May 1683 at
Gulval; although there are no other records for a James there at this
time, it would make this James over 90 years old at death.

1671. Mrs. Margarett Vibert

SOURCES: Research and records of Anthony J. Cannon.
DEATH: Gulval Parish Register, deaths/burials 1598-1712 (FHL
#226,152). Note that parish register records Deaths (not burials)
1653-1659. Entry reads: "Margarett, wife of James Vibart."

1712. John of Trengwainton Cowling Gent.

SOURCES: BIRTH: Calculated based on birthdates of children. Pedigree
given in THE VISITATION OF THE COUNTY OF CORNWALL IN 1620, p. 54.
(FHL #942/B4h/Vol.9) MARR.: ibid., for both first and second marriages.
It is possible there were later marriages, particularly since a burial
entry for 16 May 1631 refers to "Elizabeth, wife of John COWLING,
Senior, Gent." BURIAL: Probable entry -- apparently other John COWLINGs
at Madron, but this entry refers to John COWLING, Senior, Gent., Madron
Par. Reg. (FHL #254,188)

NAME: surnhame also shown as COWLINGE or COWLYN or COWLINS.

NOTES: Trengwainton is a National Trust property in England and offers
tours of the manor house and gardens.

RESEARCH: write to Trengwainton and obtain records on family history,
or from County Historical Society in Penzance, or the parish in Madron.

1713. Christian Roseter

SOURCES: BIRTH: Calculated based on birthdates of children. Pedigree
given in THE VISITATION OF THE COUNTY OF CORNWALL IN 1620, p. 54.
(FHL #942/B4h/Vol.9) BURIAL: Madron Parish Register (FHL #254,188)

NAME: surname also shown as ROSITOR.

1714. William Lavelis

SOURCES: BIRTH: Estimated based on probable birthdates of children.
NAME: Given in THE VISITATION OF THE COUNTY OF CORNWALL IN 1620,
p. 54. (FHL #942/B4h/Vol.9). MARR.: Estimated. No marriage entry yet
found. Note that there are no marriage entries at Madron from Oct 1578
to Oct. 1580. BURIAL: Madron Parish Register (FHL #254,188)

NOTES: There was a William LEVELIS born abt 1555, son of John Levelis
and Jane Poile, listed in the Levelis pedigree in VISITATION OF
CORNWALL IN 1620, p. 126 (FHL #924/B4h/Vol. 9). Probably the same
William; but, it is also possible this William was a son of a Robert
LAVELIS, gent., who was living in Madron in the 1545 "Benevolence" and
buried 26 Mar 1584 at Madron. See Madron parish reg. for burial. See
CORNWALL SUBSIDIES IN THE REIGN OF HENRY VIII, p. 159 re: 1545
Benevolence (FHL #942.37/_4s). Information tying this family together
is an Indenture dated 19 Sept 1653 (in VISITATION OF CORNWALL,
footnote on p. 127). This refers to Thomas Levelis of Penzance, gent.;
Honour Levelis, spinster, daughter of Hannibal Levelis, brother to
Thomas; and "Thomas Cowling, son of John Cowling of Trengwenton,
gent., and Ralph Lanyon, son of Thomas Lanyon, gent., sisters' sons of the
said Thomas Levelis." Given the marriage of Katherine Lavelis to Thomas
Cowling, father of the John Cowling of Trengwenton referred to, and the
marriage of Mary Lavelis to William Lanyon, probable father of the
Thomas Lanyon referred to, that "sisters' sons" must refer to John
Cowling and Thomas Lanyon, rather than their sons, Thomas Cowling and
Ralph Lanyon. Thus Thomas Lavelis, Hannibal Lavelis, Mary Lavelis, and
Katherine Lavelis were all siblings.

1715. Honour Arscott

SOURCES: Research and records of Anthony J. Cannon.
BUR.: Madron Parish Register (FHL #254,188): "Honour, wife [widow] of
William Lavelis."

RESEARCH: the surname Arscott and birthdate and place of Devonshire
are from LDS Ancestral File (1998 research). This may not be the correct
person, although she was married to a William LEVELIS. Verify through
parish recs., etc.

Gwithian, Cornwall (father: Pawle JENKIN); or Rychard JENKYN who
married Jenett DUNSTONE 5 Nov 1592, Gwithian, Cornwall (could these
