Henry II Angevin England King

NAME/TITLE: also Henry FITZ EMPRESS; and Henry II PLANTAGENET, Duke
of Normandy and Count of Anjou. The Plantagenet name is allied to the
Merovingian bloodline and echoes the French "Plant-Ard" or PLANTARD
(other ancestral name). He began the Plantagenet period in England.

Matilda, Philip, and Joana.

NOTES: Henry's mother, Matilda or Maud, had been named heir to the
throne, but King Stephen seized the throne in abt 1135. In Winchester, on
6 Nov 1153, after abt 20 years of civil war, Henry II Plantagenet won the
right to succession. In 1170, Thomas à Beckett was martyred at
Canterbury. In 1173, his son Henry, the Young, led a revolt against him.
His death in 1189 was a result of betrayal by his sons.
