William of Pembroke Marshall Earl

NAME: also shown as Guillaume MARESCHAL.

NOTE: In Newubry, October 1142, at about age 4, he barely escaped death
when King Stephen was about to hang him -- a hostage who had been
given over by his father, John Marshal, after he had broken a truce with
King Stephen. In adult life he became the Earl of Pembroke and was a
celebrated soldier-statesman. He even briefly served as regent of
England.
